Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about bacteriostatic water, peptide reconstitution, HPLC testing, and ordering from Renew Labs Group.
About Bacteriostatic Water
What is bacteriostatic water?
Bacteriostatic water is sterile water containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a preservative. The benzyl alcohol inhibits bacterial growth, making the water safe for multi-dose use in research applications. It is used primarily as a diluent for reconstituting peptides and other research compounds.
How is bacteriostatic water different from sterile water?
Sterile water for injection is a single-use product — once the vial is opened, it must be discarded. Bacteriostatic water contains benzyl alcohol, which prevents bacterial contamination after opening, making it suitable for multi-dose withdrawals. This is why bacteriostatic water is preferred for peptide reconstitution in research settings.
What is the benzyl alcohol concentration in Renew Labs bacteriostatic water?
Our bacteriostatic water contains 0.91% benzyl alcohol, verified by HPLC analysis to meet the USP specification of 0.9% ± 0.1%. This precise concentration is confirmed in our batch-specific Certificate of Analysis (COA) for every production lot.
How should bacteriostatic water be stored?
Store at room temperature or refrigerated (2°C–25°C). Do not freeze. Keep away from direct sunlight. Once opened, use within 28 days. Batch BAC-26041201 has a retest date of April 12, 2028.
Quality & Testing
What does HPLC-verified mean?
High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) is an analytical technique that separates, identifies, and quantifies compounds in a mixture. HPLC-verified means each batch has been tested using this method to confirm that the benzyl alcohol content is within specification (0.9% ± 0.1%) and that purity exceeds the NLT 98.0% requirement.
What is a Certificate of Analysis (COA) and can I see one?
A Certificate of Analysis (COA) is a quality document issued for each production batch that confirms the product meets all specified quality tests. Our COA for Batch BAC-26041201 shows: appearance (clear, colorless), benzyl alcohol content (0.91%), sterility (sterile), endotoxin (<0.1 EU/ml), pH (5.8), and particulate matter (conforms to USP <788>). You can view our current COA on our Lab Services page.
Is the product pyrogen-free?
Yes. Our bacteriostatic water is tested for endotoxins (pyrogens) using the Limulus Amebocyte Lysate (LAL) test. Our product specification requires NMT 0.25 EU/ml; our Batch BAC-26041201 result was <0.1 EU/ml — well below the acceptable limit.
