Aromatherapy & Beauty Formulation FAQ

Why use deionized water for aromatherapy blends?

With minerals removed, deionized water won’t add residue or cloudiness from tap water, so room sprays, hydrosol blends and formulations stay consistent. Aromatherapy & Fragrance Blending Water comes in amber glass dropper bottles.

Do oils mix with water?

No. Essential oils float on water, so sprays need a dispersant or solubilizer and a shake before each use. Our linen water guide shows a simple room and linen spray recipe.

Why amber glass bottles?

Amber glass helps shield light-sensitive essential oils and blends from light, which is why it is common for aromatherapy. Store bottles capped, at room temperature and away from direct sunlight.

What is Cosmetic Formulation Water for?

Cosmetic Formulation Water comes in five 55 mL fine-mist spray bottles for small batches of toners, facial mists and formulation testing. Any water-based cosmetic needs a suitable preservative.

Is it safe to put in a diffuser?

Follow your diffuser maker’s directions on what water to use. Many diffusers work with tap water, and some recommend low-mineral water to reduce buildup on the ultrasonic plate.
