Container Closure Integrity — How We Verify Every Vial Is Properly Sealed
A pharmaceutical product is only as good as its packaging. A vial with a compromised stopper or crimped seal — even one that appears intact visually — can allow microbial ingress, oxygen exposure, or moisture entry that degrades the product and compromises sterility. Container closure integrity testing (CCIT) is how we confirm every vial is properly sealed before it ships.
What Container Closure Integrity Testing Checks
CCIT verifies that the rubber stopper and aluminum crimp seal on each vial form a hermetic barrier. We check for: physical defects visible under inspection lighting (cracks, missing components, off-center crimps), headspace pressure integrity (no vacuum loss indicating seal failure), and stopper position and full engagement within the vial neck.
The Vial and Stopper System
Our vials use Type I borosilicate glass — the highest quality pharmaceutical glass, resistant to chemical leaching and temperature changes. The rubber stoppers are pharmaceutical-grade, tested for extractables and compatibility with benzyl alcohol-containing formulations. The aluminum crimp seal locks the stopper in place and provides a tamper-evident closure.
What You See as the Customer
When your Renew Lab Group order arrives, look for: a crimp seal that is perfectly centered and flush with the vial neck, a stopper that is fully seated with no visible gap, and clear, colorless solution with no visible particulates. Any vial that fails your visual inspection should not be used — contact us for immediate replacement.
Ongoing Stability of the Seal
Even a perfectly sealed vial requires proper handling. Store vials upright, away from temperature extremes and direct light. Each puncture of the stopper should use a new sterile needle. Multi-use vials should be used within 28 days of first puncture when stored refrigerated.
Quality Documentation in Every Order
Your Certificate of Analysis documents the specific results for your lot — actual measured values, not checkboxes. See our Lab Quality Standards hub for the complete quality picture.
