Pharmaceutical Product Testing for Individuals
Yes, you can get your medication tested as an individual, along with other pharmaceutical products. Renew Lab Group, a licensed HPLC lab in Houston, Texas, accepts samples from individual consumers. We test whether a product contains the labeled ingredient (identity) and how much of it (potency), and send you a written certificate of analysis. To start, call 936-379-5515 or email info@renewlabgroup.com.
Why people get a product tested
- A compounded medication seems weaker or stronger than usual, and you want to check the strength.
- You bought a product online and want to confirm it contains what the label says.
- You switched pharmacies or sources and want to compare products.
- You need documented results to share with your prescriber or pharmacist.
Product quality problems do happen. In one FDA survey, a third of compounded products ordered online failed at least one quality test, mostly for being under strength (FDA). Independent testing replaces guessing with data.
What we can test
We test medications and other pharmaceutical products against their labels. Tell us the product name, the labeled ingredient and strength, and the dosage form, and we’ll confirm whether we can test it.
Not every product can be accepted. If you’re unsure whether we can accept yours, call 936-379-5515 before you send it.
| Your question | Test we run | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Is the right ingredient in it? | Identity by HPLC (retention time vs reference standard); LC-MS for mass confirmation | Confirmed / not confirmed |
| Is it the right strength? | Potency (assay) by HPLC | Measured amount and % of label claim |
| Is there anything unexpected in it? | Purity screen by HPLC; LC-MS for unknown peaks | Unexpected peaks reported, identified where possible |
How it works
- Contact us first. Call 936-379-5515 or send a request with the product name, labeled ingredient and strength, and a photo of the label. We’ll confirm we can test it and quote the price.
- Get your quote and instructions. We tell you the price, the expected turnaround and how much sample to send.
- Send or drop off your sample. Drop it off at our lab at 6001 Central Crest, Houston, TX 77092, or ship it following our instructions.
- We test it. Your sample is analyzed against a reference standard.
- Get your certificate of analysis. We email you a report showing the method, the reference standard and your results. Questions about the numbers? Call us and we’ll explain what they mean analytically.
Tips before you send a sample
- Call first. We’ll confirm we can test the product and tell you exactly how much to send.
- Keep it in the original container when possible, with the label visible, and send a photo of the label and any pharmacy paperwork.
- Don’t combine units from different bottles or lots in one bag. Each lot is a separate sample.
- Follow storage instructions on the label. If a product is supposed to be refrigerated, tell us before shipping so we can advise on packaging.
- Write down what you want to know: identity, strength or both. A clear question gets you a clear answer.
How to read your results
Potency is reported as a percentage of the label claim. 100% means the measured amount matches the label exactly. Acceptable ranges depend on the product and the standard it’s held to, and many official standards allow a range around 100% rather than an exact match. If a result looks off, don’t change how you take a medication on your own. Share the report with your pharmacist or prescriber. If you think a product caused a problem, you can also report it to FDA through MedWatch.
What testing can’t tell you
- Whether a product is right for you. That is a conversation for your healthcare provider.
- Results for units you didn’t send. We report on the sample we received.
- Every possible contaminant. We test for the targets and screens agreed in your quote.
Privacy
We keep your identity, your sample and your results confidential, and we share them only with you unless you tell us otherwise.
